GONZALES, La. – Hundreds of young people from across Louisiana were named state champions during the 75th Annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show Presented by Price LeBlanc Feb. 13-20 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. To qualify for the state show, competitors had to first participate in parish and district livestock shows across Louisiana. At the state show, more than 3,000 young people competed with more than 6,000 animals, according to the LSU AgCenter Livestock Show office. Judges at the LSU AgCenter Livestock Show determined 2010 state champions in various breeds of beef and dairy cattle, goats, hogs, poultry and sheep. Following are those 4-H’ers from Union parish who had champion animals during the state show:
Champion and Champion Louisiana-bred Charolais Heifer – Blair Bennett, Spearsville
Reserve Champion Any Other Breed, Non-Brahman Influence, Heifer – Faith Guice, Point
Jr. Champion Yearling Jersey and Jr. Champion Yearling Louisiana-bred Jersey – Haley McCann, Downsville
Following are Union parish 4-H’ers placings at the state show:

Blair Bennett – Charolais heifer – 1st
Dana Bennett – Charolais bull – 1st, Premier Exhibitor – 7th
Brooklyn Gates – Brahman heifer – 6th, LCA showmanship – 3rd, Jr. Brahman showmanship – 4th
Faith Guice – Non-Brahman Influenced Heifer – 1st, Angus heifer – 1st, Jr. Angus showmanship – 1st
Kyle Hicks – Non-Brahman Commercial Heifer – 6th , Beefmaster heifer – 1st, Jr. Beefmaster showmanship – 5th
