LDAF Commissioner Promotes Clean Cities Effort

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M, was the keynote speaker today for the Greater Baton Rouge Clean Cities Coalition and National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day.
“Since taking office nearly five years ago, one of many goals has been to run our office more efficiently and look for ways to cut costs in an effort to be good stewards of taxpayer money. Right now, the average gallon of gas costs us $3.30. We anticipate spending approximately 80 cents per gallon using the compressed natural gas vehicles,” said Strain. “In addition to that, we are always looking for opportunities to advance quality of life and we support those efforts that are not only cost effective but environmentally sound,” Strain added.
Greater Baton Rouge Clean Cities Coalition is promoting the use of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles during its National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey event. It’s one of 160 events being held nationwide.
“So far, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry has purchased one compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle. As of now, we plan to purchase a few more to test the product in our effort to save money, improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” added Strain.
The effort is supported in part by the U.S. Department of Energy through a grant for the Advanced Electric Drive Vehicle Education Program.
