Statement by Bob Stallman, President, American Farm Bureau Federation Regarding Senate Approval of WRDA
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 16, 2013 – “Senate passage of S. 601, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), takes us one step closer to water transport upgrades needed to boost the nation’s economic growth and is welcome news for America’s farmers, ranchers and agribusiness owners.
“More than 60 percent of grain grown by our farmers for export is transported via inland waterways and 95 percent of agricultural exports and imports move through U.S. harbors. Considering those facts, new projects for flood protection, port improvements and upgrades to the nation’s aging locks and dams infrastructure authorized under WRDA are long overdue.
“We look forward to improvements to our nation’s transportation capacity, relief from growing congestion on our highways and a more competitive transportation system as benefits of this legislation.” Source: www.fb.org
