Just Rambling:
About the Front Cover: Pictured on the front cover from left to right is Captain Keith Blackmon of the Union Parish Sheriff’s office and Head of Crime Stoppers for Union Parish, my daughter, Brittany Bennett Canterberry, and Union Parish Sheriff, Dusty Gates. This picture was taken at my request by my daughter, Velvet Bennett Roberts, because I am so proud of my daughter, Brittany, for honoring our law enforcement personal as she has. In a time when politicians are scorned for saying “All Lives Matter” and our law enforcement personal are not respected, are ridiculed and criticized for doing their job, and in several instances during the past year law enforcement personal have been murdered because of their job. All lives do matter regardless of our race. We are all God’s creation. Seriously how would you like to have a law enforcement job in the times we live in? When Dr. Ben Carson was trying to make his decision to run for President, I heard him make the statement that our country may be in a state of tyranny before the next election. You may say that is foolish talking and I hope it is, but look around at the events in our country during the past year. We should not be criticizing our law enforcement personal, we should be thanking them everyday for the job they do protecting you and I. Brittany, who owns Brittany’s Originals, made and gave every Union Parish Law Enforcement official a “ Blue Lives Matter” tee shirt. In addition to this she donated four dollars to Union Parish Crime Stoppers for every “Blue Lives Matter” tee shirt she sold. The front cover picture shows Brittany holding a check for $2,000.00 that she presented to Union Parish Crime Stoppers. I would like to thank Brittany for standing up for law enforcement during these trying times and I would like to thank Sheriff Dusty Gates, Captain Keith Blackmon, and all the Union Parish law enforcement personal for the good job they do keeping our parish a safe place to live. “Thank you very Much!” Van Bennett

Recently I received a renewal for my Ag Trader USA magazine from Ms. Vee Cogburn of Huttig, Arkansas. As I turned it over to open it, I saw Ms. Cogburn had written “In God We Trust” on the back of the envelope. As I read this my emotions were stirred. My first thought was that I Loved it—we have this on our coins but this was different. Ms. Cogburn, herself, was telling me who she trusted and who we all should trust. This was great but then it made me stop and think. Do I trust God as I should? Am I sometimes ashamed to show my trust in God? Psalms 31:1 says “In You , O lord, I put my trust. Let me never be ashamed.” In our world today it seems that Christians are always under attack, from being ridiculed to being murdered. (The recent shootings in Oregon) May we never forget the phrase “ In God We Trust” and may we never be ashamed to let this trust be reflected in our lives. Thank you Ms. Cogburn for showing your faith and for stirring my emotions about my faith. You have strengthened my faith and may your faith help strengthened the faith of others who read this. Van Bennett
