Just Rambling November 2015

Just Rambling:
Our, son, Cody and our daughter, Dana, still tell me they are too busy to write each month. They are both teaching school—Cody teaching English to foreign students in Jefferson Parish and Dana teaching 4th grade at Union Christian Academy plus coaching 4th, 5th, 6th grade girls basketball and also assisting with both Jr. Varsity and Varsity girls basketball. I know they are both very busy but hopefully I can get them writing again in January. I can verify by these two that teachers stay very busy and definitely earn their pay. Teachers today have a great opportunity to be a positive influence on so many children’s lives because so many kids come from broken families and have very little discipline or structure in their lives. I commend teachers for the difficult job they have to educate children in today’s society. Without good teachers our society will continue to decline. Thank you educators—I don’t mean administrators—I mean educators—teachers. Thank you!

About our front cover:
With the beginning of hunting season, I thought it appropriate to highlight some past trophy's. These deer were all taken on our place or in close proximity to it. I am so proud to show off these trophies because they are all in my family. The above photos are of my Father, Coy Bennett. Daddy passed away in 1998 but while on this earth he was an avid hunter and an excellent shot. He was not one to hang trophies on the wall—he just liked to kill them. I finally got him to mount the deer on the above left of the front cover. It was an eleven point which now hangs in my home. The same year he killed this eleven point he also killed a good nine point but wouldn’t hear of having it mounted. As I look back at these photos I have good memories of hunting with my Father. One of my best memories was still hunting squirrels with him—I had better be quiet as we hunted which was sometimes really difficult for a young boy. It was really fun sneaking up on the squirrels with my Dad and when he shot it was normally a dead squirrel. So much for Daddy, if I don’t quit writing about him my son-in-law's will be left out and I don’t want that—I am very proud of them and their trophies. Johnny Roberts, married to my daughter, Velvet, is shown on the bottom left and Chance Canterberry, on the bottom right is married to my daughter, Brittany. I kid my son-in-law's about Daddy’s deer showing them up but they really don’t. Johnny’s deer is a good eight point while Chance’s is a good ten point. They are both avid hunters along with other members of our family. I enjoy watching them hunt and I too hunt occasionally but I had much rather have them kill a trophy than myself. I hope each of you and yours have a great hunting season—oh by the way, I do love venison and a young buck or a doe will normally eat a lot better than a trophy buck. Trophies for the family and young, tender deer for me. Can’t beat it.

As you hunt this year, don’t forget to thank God for his wonderful creation that we all enjoy but so often take for granted. The cool frosty morning, the warm rainy morning, the morning sunrise, the evening sunset, the beautiful woodland, the plentiful wildlife especially the beautiful deer. Read Genesis 1 and 2 then think about what an awesome God we serve. How He spoke heaven and earth into existence and created all living beings including both man and women. What a magnificent world we live in and may we always remember that, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” James 1:17 May we, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for us.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
