Just Rambling December 2015

Just Rambling:
Those shown on the front cover are as follows from left to right: Earl Roberts, Detective with Union Parish Sheriff Department, Ricky Albritton, Chief of Police, Bernice, La., John Belton, District Attorney for Union and Lincoln Parishes, myself, Bim Coulberston, Chief of Police, Farmerville, La., Dusty Gates, Sheriff of Union Parish.
On Thursday, November 19, 2015 an Appreciation Luncheon was held for all the Law Enforcement personnel in Union Parish at the Willie Davis Center in Farmerville. This luncheon was sponsored by Ag Trader USA, Van and Donnette Bennett; T & C Rental owned by my sister, Cindy and her husband Ted Nichols; Union Parish Farm Bureau and Union Parish Cattlemen’s Association. It was an honor and a privilege to serve our Law Enforcement Officials this day because they serve our Parish every day. If you have watched the news any during the past year you are aware of our Law Enforcement personnel being disrespected and in many instances they have been attacked. These attacks have led to the death of several Law Enforcement Officials in our nation. This is shameful! Sure there have been some Law Enforcement personnel that have gone astray in carrying out their duties but these are few and far between. The vast majority of our Law Enforcement personnel are out there everyday and night protecting our neighborhoods, our cities, our states, and our nation. Have you ever thought about being a Law Enforcement Official whether it be in a sheriff’s department, a city police department, a state trooper or other forms of law enforcement? Do you think you could handle it? Could you handle the disrespect, the verbal abuse, the threat of violence against you? Would you have the patience or the temperament to deal with the criminal element in our society? Are you a quick thinker? Can you make a split second decision and that decision always be right? Do you have the courage to stop a vehicle at night or during the day then walk up to that vehicle not knowing what you may be faced with? These are questions I ask myself when I think about our Law Enforcement Officials. As I think about these questions and others I realize what a difficult job our Law Enforcement personnel have and how thankful I am to the men and women who keep our neighborhoods, our cities, our state, and our nation safe. Without these brave men and women our nation would be in a state of tyranny. When you see a person involved in Law Enforcement please be sure to say Thank You for keeping us safe.
