"Spiritual Corner"

Spiritual Corner:

“She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” –Luke 2:7

Christmas is the time where we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, God’s only son, was sent to this earth to live fully as a human and fully as God. He lived a completely perfect and sinless life. He was a teacher, a healer, a carpenter, a miracle worker, and a friend. He walked the earth praising His Father in heaven and striving to win souls for his heavenly Father. We know the rest of the story. We know that Jesus was mistreated by the Pharisees and the people of that time. We know that people feared him and doubted him. People did not want him around because he was so different from themselves. We know that this was all part of God’s divine plan. You see, God’s divine plan was to save His people from themselves and their wicked sin. The only way to do that was to send Jesus, to die on a cross for the sins of all the people. Jesus, the most perfect Jesus, was brutally beaten and whipped, endlessly tortured, and nailed to a wooden cross. He had a crown of thorns crushed into his head and had insults hurled at him. He was mocked continuously as well as spit on in the face as others laughed. Even after going through all of this pain, Jesus still prayed from the cross to his Father, “Lord please forgive them, for they know not what they do”. This Jesus…our Jesus…loved us so much that he begged God to forgive his biggest enemies, to forgive us essentially. Jesus paid the price for all of our sins on that cross that day. We should be eternally grateful and indebted to Jesus for our entire lifetime. We should proclaim His name to all of the world, especially at this time of the year when we celebrate His magnificent birth. However, the sad thing is, many of us get too caught up in all of the other aspects of Christmas. We become too focused on what to buy each other or what we are getting for Christmas. We focus all of our attention on our family and the time we are getting to spend with them. Sometimes, we get so busy with all the other “stuff” that describes Christmas, that we don’t leave room to celebrate Jesus or to carry Him in our hearts. Jesus humbly came to the earth to save all of humanity. He was born and kept in a manger, basically a hay trough for animals. This was because there was no room in the inn for he and his parents to sleep. Just like there was no room in the inn for Jesus, often times we do not leave room for Him in our hearts, in our decisions, in our everyday encounters, in anything. When we don’t leave room for Jesus, our lives become very sad and misguided. Jesus is the only answer—He’s the answer to everything. This Christmas, I ask you to take a step back. Step back from all the gift giving and gift getting. Step back from all of the Christmas parties and family functions. Take a good step back, and you will see what Christmas is really all about. You will see that the reason for the season is truly Jesus Christ. Don’t let there not be any room in the “inn” of your heart this Christmas. Celebrate the holiday with everyone you know and share with them the story and love of Jesus.
