Just Rambling March 2017

Just Rambling:

When our President Donald Trump was campaigning, he said he wanted to go to Washington to drain the swamp. Now that he is there, I wonder will he be able to drain the swamp. When I think of this swamp, I immediately think of beavers. Beavers are animals that live in and near lakes and streams. They gnaw down trees to build dams and lodges in the water. If you are familiar with beavers, you know how destructive they are. They continually build dams and their lodges, destroying trees and causing water to back up over usable land. I have had them on all of our places and they are a nuisance. They are very hard to deal with. When I think about President Trump’s first 30 days, I can’t help but think about beavers. Every action he tries to take is immediately met by politicians, both Democratic and Republican, trying to put dams in his way. Protest groups are running rampant-protesting everything and anything. Sure, American citizens have a right to protest or march peaceably for their cause, but in my opinion, these illegals don’t have the right. It is not just these protestors trying to keep President Trump from getting things done, it is also establishment politicians that have been in Washington forever and don’t want things to change. The beaver is very, very difficult to get rid of once he becomes established in a lake, creek, or pond. They become a nuisance to our livelihood. What do you think-do we have a lot of beavers in Washington D.C. and around our country? I say we do and that President Trump is going to find it very difficult to drain the swamp.

When I think about how a portion of our country is reacting to the election of Donald Trump as President, I think about a quote by Ronald Reagan. The quote reads, “If you are afraid of the future, then get out of the way, stand aside. The people of this country are ready to move again”. I believe our nation is on the verge of moving again with reduced regulations, enforcement of our laws, and more job creation in this nation by new and existing businesses. Hopefully, the division in our nation can be reconciled and our nation will get back on the track of growth and prosperity for all of our citizens. Recently, one of my daughters posted a photo on Facebook of young ladies marching in Washington D.C. with the sign, “No God” across their chest. All I can say is if they truly believe that, then one day, as with all of us, they will meet their maker-God-and He will say, “Depart from me, I never knew you”. As Ronald Reagan said, “without God there is no virtue because there is no prompting of the conscience-without God democracy will not and cannot long endure”. May we all pray for our nation, our leadership, and the citizenry of this nation to follow God’s laws and realize this nation was founded upon God’s word. Van Bennett

The Trouble Tree, Spiritual Story by Unknown Author
The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss. Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier. “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again.” He paused. “Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick ‘em up, there ain’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”
