EAB spreads to nine parishes Source: www.laforestry.com
Add Ouachita to the growing list of Louisiana parishes where the invasive emerald ash borer has been found. In May, Richard Miller with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry reported three new parishes where EAB were caught in traps. Last week, LDAF included Ouachita, which increased to nine the number of parishes where the Asian native beetle is known to be. Those parishes include Bienville, Bossier, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Ouachita, Union and Webster. Miller said almost 700 traps were set up in Louisiana this year, which is about 300 more than in 2016. The four new parishes will be added to the federal EAB quarantine, which includes treatments for ash trees that are logged in those parishes before it can be moved outside the quarantine area. It also restricts the movement of nursery stock ash trees.
