Just Rambling: Goldman Equipment held a Grand Opening of their new Farmerville John Deere dealership on September 15th and 16th. A ribbon cutting was held on the 15th followed by a hamburger dinner for those in attendance. Ag Trader USA would like to welcome Goldman Equipment’s John Deere dealership to Farmerville and Union Parish.
When you think John Deere please think Goldman Equipment in Farmerville for your tractor, equipment, parts and service.
The Union Parish Cattlemen’s Association held it’s third quarter meeting on September 14th. The speaker for the evening was Dr. Ed Twidwell, Forage Specialist with the LSU AgCenter. The meal was sponsored by Thomas Nursery and Feed. Dr. Twidwell spoke about visiting the Northwest, specifically Oregon, to learn more about the ryegrass and clover industry. Almost all of the ryegrass and clover seed planted for forage in the Southeast Region of the U.S. is produced in Oregon. Dr. Twidwell talked about many second, third, and fourth generation farms visited in the Williamette Valley of Oregon. Young people are staying on the farms to continue the production of ryegrass and clover seed. In 1890, scientists from Oregon State University Ag Experiment Station stated, “The indications are that this is a most wonderful grass country, and when farmers once became fully awakened to the value of their land for grasses and clovers,
and clover, wheat growing will take a secondary position in the Willamette Valley, which will in time become the home of grasses and clovers of the highest perfection.”
This prediction has come true. We want to thank Dr. Twidwell for his presentation and Thomas Nursery and Feed for sponsoring our meal. We would like to encourage all cattle owners in Union Parish to join Union Cattlemen’s Association.
