Ouachita Parish Cattlemen’s Association

On the night of March 6th the Ouachita Parish Cattlemen’s Association held their first quarter meeting. My daughter, Velvet and I attended the meeting and thoroughly enjoyed it. After a good meal, Ouachita Parish Cattlemen’s President, Mr. Terry Boone, opened the business meeting introducing Mr. Steve Smith of Agri-Sales Associates as the first speaker. Mr. Smith spoke about True-test scales and Y-Tex identification and insecticide ear tags for cattle. Following Mr. Smith’s presentation, Mr. Joe York spoke about and showed a video of an ATV/UTV calf catcher that he had developed to use when tagging and banding newborn calves in the pasture. This calf catcher provides protection from the mama cow. Please see our classified section on page 10 for contact information for Mr. York. Mr. Jason Holmes, Regional Livestock Specialist with LSU AgCenter also made a presentation concerning the cattle industry in general. Velvet and I want to thank the Ouachita Parish Cattlemen’s Association for allowing us to attend. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones along with learning more about the cattle business and ways to improve it.
