LSU AgCenter sweet potato field day set for Aug. 16 Writer: Karol Osborne at 318-574-2465 or kosborne@agcenter.lsu.edu (07/31/2018) CHASE, La. — The LSU AgCenter Sweet Potato Research Station near Chase will showcase the latest research and demonstration plots at a field day on Aug. 16. “The annual field day features the latest sweet potato research and offers producers and industry representatives an opportunity to discuss emerging issues,” said Tara Smith, station coordinator and AgCenter region director. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the station, with opening comments and field tours at 8:45. The station is located at 130 Sweet Potato Road, Chase. AgCenter experts will provide updates on:— Meloidogyne enterolobii nematode.— Variable rate phosphorous research.— Sweet potato breeding program. Other topics to be highlighted include:— Improving production efficiency through slip priming and applying variable rates of phosphorus.— Remote drip irrigation systems.— Worker protection regulations.— Weed management updates.— Insect research updates. General industry updates and U.S. Sweet Potato Council updates will also be discussed. The program will adjourn at noon followed by a sponsored lunch. A Worker Protection Standard train-the-trainer program conducted by AgCenter pesticide safety coordinator Kim Pope-Brown will be held at the station following lunch.
