Robert T. (Bob) Riser Named Union Parish Cattlemen of the Year for 2018

Robert T. (Bob) Riser Named Union Parish Cattlemen of the Year for 2018 Mr. Robert T. (Bob) Riser and his wife Judy farms 1,690 acres of pasture and hay land on which they run over 500 head of beef cows and their calves. The Riser’s own approximately 700 acres of this property. In addition, they have 14 broiler houses in production. He is well known in the cattle and poultry business. When I think about Bob Riser’s operation I can’t help but to think about where he came from. Bob’s father passed away when Bob was only six years of age and his mother passed away when he was only 14. He was born in Caldwell Parish and lived there until he graduated from high school. He then moved to Union Parish to live with his older brother, Alton (Buddy) Riser. He also had a younger brother, Ben Joe Riser. Their parents didn’t own much property in Caldwell Parish. Upon moving to Union Parish the property was sold and the proceeds were used to start an agricultural business. All three brothers worked together initially, but eventually Buddy and Ben Joe began working off farm and Bob continued farming. As I think about Bob losing both of his parents at an early age, I can only admire and deeply respect him. How often do young people today use a situation, such as Bob experienced, as an excuse to do nothing. Bob was different. He began his farming operation and hasn’t looked back. With very little assistance in the way of inheritance, Bob, along with his wife, Judy, has built an outstanding farming operation while rearing kids and grandkids to continue in the business. Union Parish cattlemen are honored and proud to name Bob Riser as Union Parish Cattlemen of the Year.
