Just Rambling October 2019:

Just Rambling: To start my “Just Rambling” I want to give the new phone numbers for Ag Trader USA. We have disconnected the 318-778-4188 number which was listed in our Ag Trader USA magazine. The new number to use are 318-778-3724 or my cell phone 318-557-7392. Please make note of this. I would like to thank the North Louisiana Goat Association for inviting me to speak at their monthly meeting on September 23. My wide, Donnette and I along with our daughter, Dana and her husband Randy attended the meeting. It was great to see old friend and former Union Parish County Agent, Howard Gryder and to meet so many other good people that are members of the Goat Association. We enjoyed a good meal and good fellowship with everyone in attendance. On the afternoon of September 24 Donnette and I attended a Pasture Walk on the farm of Casey Towns near Marion, La. This Pasture walk was sponsored by Trailblazer, NRCS, USDA, LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Grazing Coalition. Speakers for the afternoon were Stephanie Paul, Casey Towns, Kelsey Landerville, Steve Nipper and Jason Holmes. Mike Turpin with Trailblazer facilitated the meeting. This meeting was very enjoyable and educational. At the conclusion of the meeting a meal was enjoyed by all in attendance. I would encourage everyone to attend these Pasture Walks and other events sponsored by these agencies. The following Thursday night, September 26th, Donnette, Dana, Randy and I attended the Union Cattlemen Association meeting at the LSU Extension Service auditorium. The featured speaker for the night was Mr. Marty Woolridge, Chairman of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Livestock Committee. Mr. Woolridge is a cattle producer located in Oil City, which is North of Shreveport. Mr. Woolridge spoke about the beef industry and the Beef Industry Council which is handled by the Louisiana Farm Bureau Livestock Committee. We had a really good turn out for the meeting and everyone enjoyed a catered brisket dinner from Mamoo’s restaurant. Union Parish Farm Bureau sponsored the meal for this meeting. I would like to encourage you to join Union Cattlemen Association if you are not already a member or the Cattlemen Association where you are located. Remember strength is in numbers and there are some on Capital Hill that say they want to eliminate cattle because of damage to our climate. In my opinion there are a lot of crazy ideas being tossed around in Washington D.C. these days but only time will tell if some of these ideas come to fruition. I want to thank Mr. Marty Woolridge for coming to speak to Union Parish Cattlemen Association. Van Bennett
