State Leaders Promote Agritourism Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain, D.V.M. and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser have teamed up to promote state agritourism. “There is so much to learn about the agricultural and forestry industries. From the educational aspect of where your food comes from to outdoor activities that promote family fun, this is a wonderful collaborative effort with the state’s top tourism promoter Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser,” said Strain. “Take our Certified Louisiana program for example – it consists of several businesses that provide tours and host events that highlight Louisiana-made products. It is so important that people learn about Louisiana’s rich history and how the ag industry is a major part of it.” “This is a great chance for our two state agencies to join forces and share different ways to experience what makes Louisiana so unique. Not only do our agritourism attractions give visitors hands-on experiences at places like strawberry farms and corn mazes, but it also allows them to delve deeper into the agriculture-related experiences you can find only in Louisiana, like at our crawfish farms. As we promote agritourism across the state, I hope residents consider taking a staycation to visit these family friendly places to make memories with their loved ones sure to last a lifetime,” said Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the Lt. Governor’s Office collaborated on video messaging that will be used in various mediums such as websites and social media. The videos promote activities such as visiting strawberry patches where children can pick the delectable red berry to Louisiana vineyards where visitors can participate in grape stomping. There are agritourism opportunities for all ages. A soft launch of the videos was rolled out in the fall of 2019 in support of the many agriculture related events that coincide with the holidays. Those events include visiting pumpkin patches, corn mazes and picking out the perfect Christmas tree at a local tree farm. A general agritourism related video is also available.
