About the Front Cover:
Our baby daughter, Barbara Blair Bennett, graduated on April 29th, as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University. She has now been selected to attend Auburn University to improve her surgery skills and to work with incoming vet students there. While receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, she was also awarded the Small Animal Surgery Award and the Neurology Award for the graduating class. Blair graduated from Cedar Creek High School in Ruston, where she was selected as Miss Cedar Creek by the faculty during her senior year. She also participated in basketball, where she made All-District, and track, where she was the State Champion female discus thrower her senior year. She also went through the LSU Ag Center Leadership Program. She was selected to give the Commencement Address, which was held in conjunction with the Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans. After high school, Blair attended Louisiana Tech University, where she threw the discus and majored in Animal Science/Pre-Vet. At he end of her third year, she applied to Mississippi State School of Veterinary Medicine and was the only three year student selected, who was not from the state of Mississippi. After her first year at Mississippi State, she was eligible to graduate with a BS in Animal Science. She came back to get this degree through Louisiana Tech. Our sincere thanks go out to Dr. William Green, with Louisiana Tech University, who was very instrumental in helping Blair get into Veterinary School. We would also like to thank Mr. Jason Holmes, Regional Livestock Specialist with LSU Ag Center, who helped Blair so much in her 4-H Livestock projects. From a small girl at age six, showing her small Angus heifer, Duchess, to a junior and senior, when she showed her Charolais and Brangus heifers in Louisville, Kentucky—the 4-H program was very rewarding for Blair. I would also like to thank Dr. Mike Strain, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry and Ms. Cyd Collins, Breeder Manage for House of Raeford Poultry Company, for writing letters of recommendation for Blair to get into Vet School. We are so proud of Blair and we want to thank everyone that helped Blair become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
